About Crystal

No doubt Crystal L. Smalls-Wright is a multi-faceted talent.

Crystal's journey into the world of words began at the age of seventeen. It was then she secured her first byline while an intern at The Georgetown Times newspaper in her hometown of Georgetown, SC. She went on to write for The State newspaper and The Gamecock, both while pursuing her undergraduate degree at The University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC. Crystal currently works as a ghostwriter and freelances for individuals and businesses as she awaits her own debut.

Crystal obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism & Mass Communications and English. Her thirst for knowledge didn't stop there; she furthered her education with a Master of Business Administration (MBA), equipping her with keen business acumen. Crystal  delved deeper in becoming a dynamic creative force when she established a business to provide copywriting, ghostwriting, and marketing services to individuals, authors and businesses.

Crystal's philosophy on writing embodies a unique blend of Southern charm and intellectual prowess. Crystal is a current member of The Authors Guild and The Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI). She writes in every age category:  Middle Grade (MG) Contemporary Speculative fiction, Young Adult (YA) Contemporary fiction,  and Adult Women's fiction. Crystal is a 2022 #RevPit winner and a First Reader for #RevPit years 2023, 2024, and 2025.

When asked, why does she write, Crystal responded: "I come alive when I write. It brings me peace. My insides tingle when people read my stories and explore the characters and worlds that I build. My goal is to leave a legacy behind where my writing can be read for generations to come. I want to touch people's lives and impact them in a way that will forever leave an imprint on their hearts and minds. I write because I was born to write. I find solace knowing when my body is no longer in the physical form, that my words will forever live on for people to continue to enjoy."

Crystal lives in Atlanta, GA with her husband, Matthew, a lifetime collection of books, and her two ferocious feline overlord owners, Pebbles and Bam Bam. When she's not writing, Crystal enjoys traveling, reading, visiting amusement parks, and dancing.
